Camille Diaz has over 10 years of experience in the informal education field as an education coordinator, a camp director, and as the assistant director of an afterschool program. She has been developing science-based, hands-on curriculum for the past eight years.
I like to write theme based curriculum that follows a "say and do" approach which makes teaching easy for new teachers and group leaders, particularly those who work in afterschool programs.
I always love when staff I've trained come back to me and say how much they enjoy teaching using my materials. My favorite teaching moment was when I had just finished teaching a group of zoo campers about decomposition with an experiment including yeast and a banana in a plastic baggie. We had just broken up into small groups to start creating their baggies when one student came in late. I was worried I would have to stop and explain or he wouldn't understand the project. To my delight, another camper took him in and explained the whole experiment perfectly. They really were learning!
